06/11/2013: Welcome to Winning Wednesday

Wednesday is derived from the Norse god, Odin who was their supreme god and god of victory. Winning is what today is about, winning new business, winning the right price for every job we do and winning ore referrals from happy customers.

Winning new business isn't just about meeting new people. Every business has a rich source of new opportunities in its existing customer base. The phrase "Never forget a customer, never let a customer forget you" may be old and hackneyed but such things don't have to be new to be true.

When you have a small business to run, it is just not possible to find the time to call everyone that you would like to. They have to be there for a start, which cuts down the available time even more. So how to make regular contact with the people who matter?

This is where the broadcast email comes in. A regular drip-feed of information about your business directed at the people that know you and have either bought from you in the past, or who have considered buying from you. It is not just the recipients that may act on what you tell them, but if you encourage them to pass the information on, it could bring in new prospects from their own networks.

Getting this right is important though and there are a number of aspects of the mailing list of recipents and the email itself that need to be considered very carefully before setting finger to keyboard.

The mailing list:

  • Is it up to date?
  • Are the contacts relevant?
  • Can you select groups or individuals?
  • Have the contacts had an email recently?
  • Is the geographical area relevant?
  • Are your competitors in the list?
The message:
  • Does your MOJO leap out at the reader?
  • Is it well worded and appealing?
  • Is it grammatically correct?
  • Does it contain a link to more information?
  • Does it contain a call to action?
  • Does it ask to be passed on to others?
  • Does it contain your up to date contact information?
  • Does it give the opportunity to unsubscribe?

There is much more to getting this right than simply buying in a database and sending out a bunch of emails to multiple addressees. With the built-in broadcast email function, you can send regular or ad-hoc information to a carefully selected group of contacts from your database, each one will be individually and personally addressed to make sure it reaches the recipient. Your custom stationery can be built in and you can attach files.

Database management and promotional mailshots are just two of the options that you can build into your Village Websmith support package to help spread the word in a positive, outgoing way. It is a highly cost and time effective way of keeping your message fresh and in front of the right people.
