The Village Websmith - Web Design & Development in Your Area
Welcome to Thrilling Thursday
Thursday draws its name from the old English for thunder, a translation of a Latin name for Jupiter's Day. Juptier was god of thunder and is the biggest planet in our solar system, being one of the brightest objects in our night sky. Set big goals on Thursday and go large.
One of my favourite expressions is "Fear and excitement are just two sides of the same coin". A shift in perception can make something that looks daunting look challenging and stimulating instead.
Take a roller coaster for example. Some people won't go on it because it would scare them witless while others go on for exactly the same reason. Running a small business can be like a roller coaster ride and once the car has left the top, there is no getting off until a natural conclusion is reached.
Excitement and enthusiasm are infectious and come through in everything that we do. If we view out business in that way, it is easier to get potential customers excited and enthused about being a part of it.
Thrilling Thursday can be just that if we all try looking at what we need to achieve with a sense of wonder and excitement. Give it a try and amaze yourself with infectious verve today.
Marketing, promotion and sales activities all contribute to any business goal, and over the years, hundreds of Village Websmith customers have had help with presenting the exciting side of their business. Abenhall is a tiny, ancient village in a secluded quiet valley near Mitcheldean. The parish includes the settlement of Plump Hill, on the Mitcheldean to Cinderford Road as it climbs into the high Forest.
Once part of the Westbury Hundred (which was known as Dene at the time of the 1086 Doomsday book) Abenhall is on the Flaxley to Mitcheldean Road. Originally a mining and iron making centre, it is notable for its 14th century Church of St Michael, which is built of local red sandstone and has excellent contemporary carvings relating to the Forest of Dean's industries. These include a shield bearing the arms of the Freeminers on the west wall and the fabulous mid -15th century octagonal font, that has tools of miners and metalworkers incised on its St Michaels at Abenhall sides.
St. Michael's Church - originally built as a chapel of ease, the church was expanded in the 14th century to include nave, south aisle and tower. The arms of the Freeminers can be seen on the south side of the tower and on the 18th century font. St. Michael's Church - Abenhall is 1.5 km south of Mitcheldean and is set in beautiful surroundings on the edge of the Forest. Old Parish baptism, marriage and burial registers, from 1596, are stored at the Gloucestershire Record Office. Writing for the web is a particular skill. Unlike other advertising copy, you have to appeal to two audiences, human and robots. Both have conflicting needs so writing effectively for both is rather like dancing in a minefield.
There are tools and methods available to help, and the Wednesday Workshops are there to help you pick the techniques you need to make oustsanding use of your web space.
