Chepstow Wassail & Mari Lwyd
Venue: Chepstow town centre, castle and bridge
From: 1:30 pm Until: 11:00 pm
If you are lucky enough to be in Chepstow for this event, you are in for a feast of tradition, music, poetry, dancing and one of the largest gatherings of Maris Lwyd in the world.

Last year's event saw a record 27 Maris parading the streets of the town, wassailing the tree and going from door to door singing and reciting poems to gain admission and hospitality for their entourages.

The highlight of the day is the dance meeting between English and Welsh border morris sides on the old bridge in Chepstow, the symbolic boundary between the two countries. The power and passion of border morris is something to be seen, and when surrounded by so many like-minded people in the darkness and mist rising from the river, the atmosphere is positively spine-tingling.

Starting at lunchtime, this feast of traditional entertainment and well-wishing for the coming year goes on well into the night, rounded of by a ceilidh at the drill hall. See you there!
